FEMA INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE IN SEMINOLE COUNTY

SEMINOLE COUNTY, FL (Saturday, September 16, 2017, 3:45p.m.)- FEMA Individual Assistance has been approved for Seminole County. Individual Assistance from FEMA may be able to provide qualifying residents impacted by Hurricane Irma with financial assistance to help return their homes to a livable condition. FEMA provides assistance for other disaster-caused expenses including medical and dental, child care, essential household items, moving and storage, vehicle, and some clean-up items.

The first FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Team (DSAT) arrived in Seminole County today, Saturday, September 16, 2017. The DSAT will canvas impacted areas of the County, including all seven Seminole County cities, to assist residents with FEMA Individual Assistance registration and information. The DSATís presence may be noticeable throughout the community. Before disclosing any personal information, ensure the person requesting information provides identification.

Additionally, FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers have established Operation Blue Roof, providing a temporary covering of blue plastic sheeting to help reduce further damage to property until permanent repairs can be made. Only primary residences that have standard shingled roofs are eligible to receive a temporary blue roof. Metal roofs and mobile homes will be repaired when practical on a case by case basis, and roofs with greater than 50 percent structural damage are not eligible for this program. This program is available at no cost to eligible Seminole County homeowners.

Residents can register at www.disasterassistance.gov or call the FEMA hotline at 1-800-621-FEMA. Beware of fraudulent activity; FEMA will not make a phone call to an individual to request bank or personal information.
