Seminole County To Recycle Electronics From Businesses

Posted on: 8/27/2003

On July 30, 2003, Seminole County held its first Business Electronic Recycling Collection Event. In just four hours, over 7 tons of old computers and other electronics were collected. Did you miss this event?

Seminole County is offering two more free Electronics Recycling Collection Events for businesses located in Seminole County. The County's Solid Waste Management Division received a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to to help develop the infrastructure for electronics recycling.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) has determined that the high levels of lead found in computer monitors and television monitors is a hazardous waste. Recycling of these old electronics is the preferred method of waste management. By recycling, businesses avoid the costs and regulations associated with hazardous waste disposal.

Seminole County has scheduled two Business Electronics Recycling Collection Events - on September 18 and November 6 at the Central Transfer Station in Longwood from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Collections are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call Solid Waste Customer Service at 407-665-2260.
