Seminole County Submits Fiscal Year 2003/04 And 2004/05 Proposed Budgets

Posted on: 7/9/2003

On Wednesday, July 9, 2003, Seminole County Manager Kevin Grace submitted the proposed budgets for FY 2003/04 and FY 2004/05 to the Board of County Commissioners for their review and consideration.

The proposed budget for FY 03/04 totals approximately $546 million while the FY 04/05 outlines a spending program of over $480 million.

According to Grace, the County’s finances have been affected by the “soft” economy of the past few years, but are relatively strong compared to many other local governments. The revenues that have been most negatively affected are the tourist tax and the sales tax.

“While certain revenues have been slowed by the shaky economy, the County continues to reap the benefits of its successful economic development program of the past several years and the expansion of its non-residential tax base,” Grace said.

The Board of County Commissioners will conduct a series of public workshops on the budget on July 23-25 in the Board of County Commissioners chambers at the County Services Building, 1101 East First Street, in Sanford. The Board will also conduct two public hearings in September to consider and approve a final budget.
