Seminole County Opens New Recreational Trail Bridge

Posted on: 5/13/2003

On Monday, June 9, 2003, the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners will officially open the I-4 Trail Overpass Bridge. This 373-foot long, cable-stayed suspension bridge, located just south of County Road 46A, connects the Seminole-Wekiva Trail west of I-4 to the Lake Mary-Rinehart Road Trail east of the interstate. The bridge is a key element of the Seminole County Trails program, which provides recreational trails for hikers, bicyclists, skaters, and equestrians.

Design and construction on the 3.5 million dollar bridge began in January, 2002, and was funded by federal transportation grants and the local Trails Referendum.

The bridge is expected to be open for public use no later than noon on June 9.
